Working Behind Bars is one of most challenging and dangerous careers in law enforcement. There is also the potential for significant liability, both individual and organizational, associated with the responsibilities of the Corrections Officer.  It is incumbent on each officer to understand and utilize leadership skills to minimize liability pitfalls.  This course has been developed to assist officers in becoming skilled professionals and self-directed leaders.

This course deals with many of the issues involved with Working in Corrections. It includes first hand experiences and findings of Working Behind Bars, classroom lecture and several practical exercises.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Understand different types of leadership

• Understand the steps of problem solving

• Understand the different types of counseling

• Understand the many different cultures in our society and how to work with them

• Discuss many of the liability issues associated with Corrections

Instructor:  Mark Butler is highly trained in many aspects of Law Enforcement including all areas of Corrections.  He worked in one of the largest jails on the East Coast.  This facility consisted of every type of incarceration and he managed over 100 inmates during an ordinary shift.  He has performed countless cell extractions, transports, and searches.  Mark has trained many officers across the country and is highly respected in his field.

Mark continues to work in the field and has taught all over the United States and Internationally, He has trained and worked with some of the world’s best trained operators, including; Marine Force Recon, Army Rangers, Special Forces, and Navy Seals.
