THIS CLASS IS CANCELED
People have been using edged weapons since the beginning of time. Prior to invention of firearms, knives, arrows, spears, etc. were common place. They are still around in one form or another. Ever since the terrible events of 9/11, where the hijackers used box cutters, there has been an increased awareness of edged weapons. Most people have no idea how to defend against an attack with a sharp object. Most what you see on TV is just enough to get people hurt.
Lee Shaykhet’s training actually addresses two sides of the edged weapons story. First it deals with defending against an attack. The second part explains how to use an edged weapon, if necessary.
This program is about the typical problems and issues that occur in a confrontation, and how to successfully deal with them. There are some basic concepts that are addressed. There is a principle difference between the traditional approach to self defense, and the practical side of the matter.
The simple fact is that people under stressful conditions cannot do complicated step by step techniques. No amount of repetition can change that fact. Shaykhet keeps it simple because that actually works.
The training deals the psychological stress of a confrontation and how to deal with it. The Observe, Orient, Decide, Act Loop principle is also explained. There is a scenario based practical part, where the students get to actually put what they learned into practice.
