The Michigan Department of State Police Firearms Records Unit is pleased to offer License to Purchase
and Firearm Disqualifications training. This training is specifically designed for law enforcement agency
staff responsible for making the determination whether or not to issue a License to Purchase a Pistol a
Pistol (LTP).
Classroom instruction will focus on the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the Michigan
Firearms Act of 1927, as amended, and the impacts each have on an individual’s ability to obtain a LTP.
A thorough review of all disqualification statutes is included and factors to consider in denying a LTP are
discussed in depth. This class is a Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES)
recognized program.
